Does PowerPBX do anything different from a standard Asterisk server

From a customer perspective the short answer is no.  If something works on a standard Asterisk install on a dedicated server then it will work on our service.  We provide a standard Asterisk server with reasonable defaults.  If something works on a dedicated Asterisk server but not on our service,  chances are it's just a simple configuration error.  The one thing that is different with our service is that there are generally very few if any NAT problems unless it is on the client side.  SIP is not NAT friendly. That is not a problem with our service because of the way our Asterisk servers are set up for hosting.  Most of the time there is no need for any special router/firewall/phone settings on the client side.  It also allows SIP software to work in public hot spots and in airports.

We do quite a few things on the back end for greatly improved security and performance.  These are highly specialized and customized solutions that are unique to our service which we have tested and refined over several years.
